Where the Mekong fans out into nine river-mouths before the sea, the delta is a slow world of floating markets, fruit orchards and stilt-house homestays — best seen from the water at dawn.

Life turns on the water — Kinh, Khmer and Hoa communities trade from boats, and the UNESCO-listed đờn ca tài tử music still drifts from riverside homes.

Start before dawn

Floating markets thin out by mid-morning. Arrange a boat the evening before to be on the water by 5:30.

Watch the wet season

The floating-water season (roughly Sep–Nov) brings high water and submerged fields — scenic, but check boat schedules.

Most river vendors and homestays are cash-only. Card and QR coverage thins outside the towns.
