Currently, the procedure for online passport application is an online administrative procedure at level 3 and level 4 for citizens. Depending on the chosen method to apply for a passport, the procedure may differ based on the citizen's selection.
The procedure for online passport application at level 3 for applicants requesting a passport can declare personal information for passport application and submit online, however, they still need to bring the original copies of some required documents to the Immigration Department for verification before the passport is issued.
The procedure for online passport application at level 4 is entirely done online, where the applicant only needs to submit the online passport application once, make online payment, and receive the results at home through express delivery.
- Vietnamese citizens with an electronic identification
- Having an ID card with an embedded chip and still valid
- Citizens need to have a phone number registered under their name according to the information on the ID card.
The following cases are not eligible for online passport issuance:
- Vietnamese citizens without electronic identification
- Individuals without an ID card with an embedded chip
For cases where applicants apply online and bring the documents directly to the Immigration Department or the Immigration Management Office for submission.

Step 2:Print the electronic passport application form (at home or at the submission location).
Step 3:Check and edit the provided information if necessary
Step 4:Schedule an appointment for document submission if needed.
Step 5:Submit the documents and verify the original copies at the Immigration Department.

For cases where applicants apply through the national public service portal and receive the passport through express delivery (No direct submission to the Immigration Department).
The online passport registration procedure is very simple with steps performed on a computer or mobile phone (smartphone) from anywhere. Follow the registration steps below
Step 1: Access the Online Public Service Portal of the Ministry of Public Security here. Then click on the three horizontal lines icon and select the Login. (This is the national public service portal processing immigration procedures including passport application). If you do not have an account on the public service portal, you can register an account

Step 2:After logging in, select the Passport issuance service and submit the application.
- Upload a passport-sized photo (4x6 cm, white background), photos of the front and back of the ID card;
- Enter all required information in the corresponding fields;
- Register the passport pickup location;
- Upload any required accompanying documents (if applicable);
- If the passport is still valid, it must be submitted in person or sent by mail to the immigration authority receiving the application;
- Await approval.



If applying for a chip-embedded passport in step 7, remember to select the option for an electronic chip passport


Step 3:Pay the online passport application fee
Once the application is accepted, the applicant must pay the fee online through the link provided by the national public service portal via text message or email.
Step 4: Receive the passport delivery at home
The passport will be returned according to the citizen's previous request. Citizens can pick it up directly at the immigration authority or have it delivered to the registered address.
Passports will be issued within 8 working days if processed at the local Immigration Department, and 5 working days if processed at the Immigration Management Office of the Ministry of Public Security.
