How long does a medical doctor have to practice medical examination and treatment?

Pursuant to Article 4 Circular 21/2020/TT-BYT regulations on content framework and practice time medical examination and treatment as follows:

“1. The content of medical examination and treatment practice is based on the competency standards of general practitioners issued by the Minister of Health in Decision No. 1854/QD-BYT dated May 18, 2015; knowledge and skills that have been trained at specialized medical schools for general practitioners and medical doctors and are based on the scope of professional activities of general practitioners as prescribed in Clause 1, Article 4 of the Circular. 35/2019/TT-BYT.

2. The total time to practice medical examination and treatment is 18 months, divided by each specialty as follows:

a) Duration of practice in Internal Medicine including Emergency Resuscitation: 5 months;

b) Surgery practice time: 3 months;

c) Duration of practice in Obstetrics and Gynecology: 3 months;

d) Pediatric practice time: 4 months;

d) Time spent practicing some techniques of other specialties (ear, nose and throat, maxillofacial, ophthalmology, dermatology, rehabilitation, traditional medicine and some techniques of other specialties according to Circular No. 35/2019/TT-BYT): 3 months.

3. During the process of practicing professional techniques, practitioners are trained in legal regulations on medical examination and treatment, professional regulations, professional ethics, patient safety, communication skills and behavior of medical examination and treatment practitioners with a total duration of 20 sessions (each session has 4 periods). This training period is included in the total medical examination and treatment practice time of 18 months specified in Clause 2 of this Article.

Thus, medical doctors have total practice time medical examination and treatment is 18 months and is distributed according to each specialty.
