Pursuant to Article 27 of the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment 2023, each practitioner is only granted 01 practice license valid nationwide. The practice license is valid for 05 years.
The contents of a practice license include the following basic information:
- Full name; date of birth; personal identification number for Vietnamese practitioners; passport number and nationality for foreign practitioners;
- Professional title;
- Scope of practice;
- Duration of practice license.
Applicants for new issuance, re-issuance, extension or adjustment of a practice license must pay fees in accordance with the provisions of law on fees and charges, except in cases where a new issuance, re-issuance, extension or adjustment is required due to the fault of the competent licensing authority.
Pursuant to Article 24 of the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment 2023, the examination and assessment of medical examination and treatment practice capacity before requesting a practice license applies to the positions of doctor, physician, nurse, midwife, medical technician, clinical nutritionist, outpatient emergency worker and clinical psychologist.
Candidates for the medical examination and treatment competency assessment must meet the following conditions:
- Have a degree appropriate to each professional title listed above;
- Completed medical examination and treatment practice as prescribed in Article 23 of the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment 2023.
The examination and assessment of medical practice capacity is organized by the National Medical Council. Participants in the examination and assessment of medical practice capacity must pay the examination and assessment costs.
