Environmental protection and sustainable development are important goals in ensuring a sustainable future for people and the planet. In the context of climate change and environmental pollution becoming increasingly serious, "environmental protection" and "sustainable development" have become top topics of concern globally. Vietnam, as a developing country and heavily affected by climate change, is facing great challenges in balancing economic development and environmental protection.
Environmental protection, also known as preserving the environment and protecting nature, is an urgent task in today's era. According to the latest Environmental Protection Law of the National Assembly, Law No. 72/2020/QH14, issued on November 17, 2020 and effective from January 1, 2022 and amended and supplemented by Law Inspector No. 11/2022/QH15. This Law regulates environmental protection activities; rights, obligations and responsibilities of agencies, organizations, communities, households and individuals in environmental protection activities.
Environmental protection is defined as practical human activities to improve and keep the surrounding living environment always clean, beautiful and fresh. More specifically, Clause 2 in Article 3 of the Law on Environmental Protection clearly states: Environmental protection activities include preventing and limiting negative impacts on the environment; respond to environmental incidents; overcome pollution and environmental degradation, improve environmental quality; rational use of natural resources, biodiversity and response to climate change.
The Law on Environmental Protection and policies of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment have laid the legal foundation for this work, emphasizing the importance of environmental protection for the sustainable development of society and the economy. economy.
2. Current environmental challenges.
Currently, we are facing many serious environmental challenges, requiring urgent environmental protection measures and sustainable environmental protection solutions.

Air pollution: Expressed through dust, gasoline, odors, and industrial emissions from factories. This condition not only causes discomfort but also directly impacts human health, from mild symptoms such as headaches and dizziness to serious diseases such as pneumonia, bronchitis, and cardiovascular problems. .2.
Water pollution: Including wastewater and garbage, causing serious consequences for aquatic ecosystems and human health. Polluted water sources can cause diseases such as dermatitis, cholera, and diarrhea upon contact or use.3.
Soil pollution: Affects the quality of fruits, vegetables, and vegetables grown on polluted soil. The use of these foods can lead to acute or chronic poisoning, nervous system depression, and accumulation of toxins in the body.4.
Climate change: One of the consequences of environmental pollution, which is strongly impacting every aspect of life.5.
Loss of biodiversity: Environmental pollution threatens the balance of the ecosystem, causing the risk of extinction for many animal and plant species.6.
Impact on socio-economic development: In addition to affecting human health and the ecosystem, environmental pollution also seriously affects economic and social development.Environmental pollution indicators and environmental reports continuously warn of increasingly serious environmental degradation, requiring the whole community to join hands in protecting our living environment.
