1. A few words about Ke Ga Lighthouse

Ke Ga Lighthouse is located on Ke Ga Cape, in Tan Thanh Commune, Ham Thuan Nam District (formerly Ham Tan District), Binh Thuan Province, Vietnam.

This location is about 30km from the center of Phan Thiet city, and has been an attractive "tourist" spot in recent years.

With an age of more than 100 years, Ke Ga lighthouse still fulfills its spiritual mission day and night, located in Tan Thanh commune, Ham Thuan Nam, Binh Thuan. This is also one of the lighthouses designed and built entirely of stone by the French with 182 iron steps leading to the top of the tower. The shape of the lighthouse seen from afar looks like a chicken's head when located on a cape jutting out into the sea, so the name Ke Ga started from there.

On the top of the lighthouse, you can admire the most beautiful scenery of Ham Thuan Nam island, Ke Ga island. The style of the lighthouse brings up the high sky to visit, blending with the blue of the ocean, the white sand, the pink of the granite rocks, all have created a picture of extremely beautiful white sand landscape in Vietnam.

2. Unique features of Ke Ga Lighthouse

For those who love adventure, the motorbike journey will be interesting with the road by the sea, the mountains, the cashew forests and the rows of thanh trees along the road. From Ho Chi Minh City, there are 2 options to get to Mui Ke Ga: go on National Highway 1A then enter Provincial Road 712 (Song Phan toll station); to Ba Ria City, follow National Highway 55, Son to Provincial Road 719.

On the way, you can visit interesting places such as Thay Thim nutrition, Binh Chau hot spring, Ta Cu mountain tourist area... On that shore, you will admire the typical beauty of Binh Thuan, from the continuous sand strip to the long grass fields under the harsh sunlight. At Mui Ke Ga, you will be immersed in the vast, heroic space of nature. The landscape is constantly changing: from dense forests to lush green dragon fruit bushes, endlessly on the hillsides, to the mountain range covered with white sand. Ke Ga beach is peaceful with fresh waves and winds and the salty taste of the ocean.

The gentle green of coconut trees, the sea and the sky blend together to create a beautiful picture. The gentle white clouds add a romantic touch to the beauty of the blue sea and the white sand and marble beach. The most famous destination in Mui Ke Ga is Ke Ga lighthouse. Built in 1897 by the French, this lighthouse was inaugurated in 1899 and is considered the oldest lighthouse in Vietnam.

The lighthouse is located on Ke Ga Island, near the coast, visitors can rent a boat to get here. With strong and high fog, the lighthouse is like a pillar of light in the blue sky, blending with the yellow color of granite, creating a wild and majestic beauty. According to legend, Ke Ga Cape is considered one of the most dangerous locations on the way from Phan Rang to Vung Tau. There is a hypothesis that the name Khe Ga or Ke Ga comes from the shape of this cape, like the beak of a chicken. Ke Ga Cape is rarely included in tours, usually only attracting those who love to explore. This place is not too noisy or bustling, but the peace and wildness make its special attraction. There is only the sea and you, a wonderful space... Leave your footprints and thousands of memories on this cool green journey, don't forget to take lots of photos to capture the most beautiful moments.

3. When should you go to Ke Ga Lighthouse during the year?

If you want to have a complete exploration of Ke Ga Lighthouse, you should “schedule” this trip during the dry season (from January to September). At this time, Binh Thuan weather is very beautiful, blue sky, gentle sunshine, suitable for sightseeing and photography activities.

3.1. Some notes when choosing the time to go to Ke Ga Lighthouse:

You should choose a time to avoid going during the rainy season (May - October) because the weather is bad, affecting your travel and exploration, and don't forget to check the weather forecast before departure to ensure your trip is safe.

If you come here in the dry season, when the water level is low, you can easily take a ferry from the mainland to the island (about 500m) without any extra cost. However, during high tide, you will need to use a canoe to move to the island. Ticket prices range from 50,000 - 100,000 VND/person, depending on the year.

After arriving at the island, to visit the top of the lighthouse, you just need to buy a ticket for 10,000 VND/person.

3.2. What time of day should I come here?

Early morning (5:30 – 7:00): This is the time when the brilliant dawn “covers” Ke Ga cape.

Afternoon (4-5pm): As the sun sets, the lighthouse and sky become the perfect backdrop for romantic photos.

5. Experiences not to be missed when coming to Ke Ga Lighthouse

When coming to Mui Ke Ga tourist area, you will enjoy wonderful moments amidst the wild and peaceful nature of Binh Thuan sea. Below are two experiences not to be missed:

5.1. Admire the ancient architecture of the lighthouse

With the talent of French architects, Ke Ga lighthouse has become a unique and splendid architectural work. The main material used is diamond marble blocks imported from France, bringing eternal and unique beauty. Each block of stone is elaborately crafted and meticulously carved, creating tight connections, without the need for any adhesives.

More importantly, after more than a century, the ancient architecture of the lighthouse remains intact and shines in the sunlight. Each block of granite still stands tall, creating a beautiful and impressive architectural work. In front of the lighthouse, you will find a large granite slab engraved with the year 1899, the anniversary of its inauguration, becoming a proud symbol of this place.

5.2. Conquering Ke Ga lighthouse

To reach the top of the lighthouse, you have to overcome a challenge of going through a spiral staircase with 183 floors, built from ferroconcrete. With the interior interface narrowing to less than 3m and gradually getting smaller towards the top, some people may feel a small detail. But don't worry, all the effort to overcome this challenge will be completely worth it.

5.3. Hunting sunrise and sunset from Ke Ga lighthouse

Ke Ga Cape is known as one of the most beautiful places to listen to the sunrise in Phan Thiet. Get up early and catch the first rays of sunlight rising over the sea, making the sky pink. The quiet space, with only gentle waves and sea breezes, will bring you an unforgettable feeling of relaxation.

If you decide to camp here, you will be immersed in the beautiful sunrise over the sea. This iconic warning will make you contemplate the shimmering beauty of the first rays of the day shining on the sea. Moreover, you also have the opportunity to watch the wonderful sunset when the sun sets and the sea is immersed in a brilliant red light.

5.4. Strolling around the hundred-year-old pine trees

On the way to Ke Ga lighthouse, you will pass through a road with a “fairy” beauty, where rows of hundred-year-old frangipani trees shine in their own unique way. Each season, the frangipani trees bloom, creating a scene full of color and freshness. The French planted these frangipani trees a long time ago, which is why this road is called “hundred-year-old frangipani trees”.

Especially, at the end of July, when the frangipani flowers are in full bloom, not only is the scenery more beautiful but it also brings a sweet and airy fragrance in the sunlight. You can enjoy a moment immersed in the intoxication of the fragrance and create unique photos at the interesting photo corner on this road.

When you successfully conquer the 65m high tower, a beautiful scene will await you, with an indescribable feeling of closeness when the clouds, sky and sea breeze come into sight. You will feel the majesty and fascination of the surrounding natural beauty. All efforts have become extremely worthy when you experience the wonderful panorama from the top of Ke Ga lighthouse.

5.5. Discover the jumping rock

About 10km from Ke Ga Phan Thiet lighthouse, you will find a captivating landscape with rocky beaches rising in the middle of the sea, creating a poetic image considered a "specialty" of this land.

The rocks in the bay have a variety of beautiful shapes. Jumping Rock Bay still retains its wild beauty, because few tourists know and explore. This means you have the opportunity to enjoy the original beauty of this place. However, be careful when moving on the rocks, because they can be slippery.

5.6. Fishing, squid fishing, overnight camping

In the afternoon, when the tide is low, the large rocks become an ideal place for you to satisfy your passion for fishing or squid fishing. Sitting on these rocks, you will enjoy not only the beautiful scenery but also this elegant pleasure.

However, if fishing is not your thing, drop by the shore to buy fresh seafood from the locals. Then, you can organize a great barbecue party right on the beach, enjoy the fresh flavors and immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of coastal life.

Not stopping there, when you step foot on Ke Ga lighthouse, you will witness many groups of young people organizing overnight camps, the atmosphere is cheerful and full of river inspiration. However, to carry out this activity, you need to contact in advance and get approval from the border guards on the island. All the items in the camp, from food and water, you must prepare in advance, because there are no services on the island.
