Temples
Ha Son is a mountainous commune in Ha Trung district - Thanh Hoa province, running along the left side of Ma River (Len River) with a natural area of 1,500 hectares and a population of nearly 5,000 people. It is a land with a very special geographical location, where Ma River splits into two branches to form a river junction bordering 5 districts: Ha Trung, Hoang Hoa, Hau Loc, Vinh Loc and Yen Dinh with many historical legends "Dat Thanh Ke Ngu Huyen", meaning that just one rooster crow is heard by the people of all 5 districts.
Han Temple (also known as the Third Mother Temple or the Third Lady's Palace), Ba Bong Temple (also known as Co Bo Temple or Co Ba Lady's Palace) are historical and cultural relics of Ha Son commune, built over 500 years ago. Through many ups and downs of time, the Han Temple and Ba Bong Temple relics were completely destroyed at times, and accordingly, the palanquin procession and the Co Bo ball procession ceremony at the "National Mother of the People's Prayer" were also forgotten. However, the "Spiritual" land granted by the King has been restored, renovated and modified many times by the people and visitors. Over time, people from all over the country and the local community still eagerly visit, burn incense and pray for blessings for a peaceful life and good crops. It can be said that this is a unique place for "National Mother of the People's Prayer" (Other places worshiping Mau Thoai and Co Ba are only worshiped together or just worshiped in vain). Both of these temples were granted Provincial Monument status by the State in 1992.
A legend about Miss Ba Thoai Cung Han Son
According to legend, around the early years of the Hong Duc dynasty of King Le Thanh Tong (1460-1497), Grand Chancellor Le Tho Vuc, after making many achievements, was given the title of "Binh Truong Quan Quoc Trong Su" by the king, then the title of "Sung Quoc Cong", and was assigned to guard the Ba Bong border "Sacred forest and poisonous water". During a fierce battle that lasted for a long time, there was no winner or loser but the situation was very dangerous. That night, the famous general dreamed of a girl wearing white clothes descending from the clouds to Ba Bong, parting the water, stepping onto a palanquin and saying: "Retreat your troops to Nhi Son, lower the water to besiege, go up to Thach Ban mountain to pray to the Mother, and all will be answered". Following his words, the famous general led his troops down to Chi Thuy (now Han Son waterfall) to offer prayers to the Mother and then arranged his troops to lie in ambush. The Mother Goddess's response to the plan to destroy the enemy was to fill the rocks to block the flow, use the rising tide, and use them as a diversion to lure the enemy to cross the reef. When the tide went down, they counterattacked with all their might. The enemy's retreating boats stumbled on the reef, capsized and sank in large numbers. The ambush troops rushed out to attack, and countless enemy soldiers died and were defeated miserably, no longer daring to harass them. (The traces of the reef at Thac Han Waterfall still remain to this day).
The Han Son waterfall is famous for its military exploits, famous everywhere, and once glorious. The girl in the palanquin that night told General Le Tho Vuc a dream was the daughter of Ngoc Hong Thuong De (Princess Mai Hoa), now called Co Ba or Co Bo Thoai, who covered Ba Bong temple. The person who told General Le Tho Vuc a dream and gave advice to defeat the enemy was "The Third Water Fairy Holy Mother Bach Ngoc Ho Trung Xich Thuy Tinh Xich Lan Long Nu", also known as the Third Mother, the Water Mother, and the Han Son Mother, all of which are one. To respond to the grace of the gods, General Le Tho Vuc reported to the king, and King Le ordered the construction of a temple to worship Co Ba on the bank of the Ba Bong alluvial plain today. The temple to worship the Third Holy Mother is on the high mountain of Thach Ban, Han Chi Thuy waterfall (later moved down to the river for the convenience of the people to visit). In gratitude for the merits of General Le Tho Vuc, local people built a temple right below in front of Mau Temple, separated by Dai Bai yard (from then until now, that arrangement has been maintained).
