More than 3,300 m of cave discovered in Quang Binh

From March 12 to 16, 2023, an expedition from the British Royal Caves Association (BCRA) surveyed the limestone mountains in Lam Hoa commune, Tuyen Hoa district. Five wet caves with a total length of 3,349 m were discovered.
All the caves are wet, some caves have dry branches. Of these, Hung Tru 1 cave is 1,919 m long and 11 m deep; Hung Tru 2 cave is 502 m long and 25.8 m deep; Hung Tru 3 cave is 153 m long and 11.4 m deep; Hung Ka Vong 1 cave is 238 m long and 2.8 m deep; Hung Ka Vong 2 cave is 537 m long and 5 m deep.
The experts also discovered a cave with a fairly large underground stream, but could not fully survey it due to lack of equipment. The team prepared boats, rescue equipment, and diving tanks for further survey.
Mr. Nguyen Hoai Nam, Secretary of Tuyen Hoa District Party Committee, said that the locality may still have many undiscovered caves. "Some caves have large spaces, beautiful stalactites, and have potential for tourism exploitation. The district will build safe and impressive destinations when more detailed announcements are made," Mr. Nam said.
Quang Binh is known as the "Kingdom of Caves", with more than 500 caves discovered. About 40 caves have been put into tourism exploitation. Of these, Son Doong, En and Pigmy caves are the first, second and fourth largest in the world, respectively. Son Doong Cave is fully booked until March 2024.
