Mountaineering
Vietnam, with its diverse terrain and stunning natural landscapes, is a great destination for climbing enthusiasts. From the towering peaks of the north to the lush central highlands, there are plenty of opportunities for climbers of all experience levels.
Fansipan, located in Lao Cai province near Sapa, stands at 3,147 metres and is known as the ‘Roof of Indochina’. The highest mountain in Vietnam offers stunning views of the Hoang Lien Son mountain range, with the climb typically taking 2-3 days. For those who prefer a less strenuous experience, a cable car can take visitors to the summit in just 15 minutes. Ba Na Hills in Da Nang, at 1,487 metres, combines mountaineering with tourism, featuring the famous Golden Bridge and lush jungle trails. Bach Ma Mountain in Thua Thien-Hue province, located in Bach Ma National Park, has rich biodiversity, stunning waterfalls and remnants of French architecture along the way. Lang Biang in Lam Dong province near Da Lat, at 2,167 metres, offers spectacular views of Da Lat city and the surrounding highlands, and is popular for hiking, camping and bird watching.
Pu Ta Leng in Lai Chau province, the second highest mountain in Vietnam at 3,049 metres, is famous for its challenging terrain and picturesque rivers and is recommended for experienced climbers. Chua Chan Mountain in Dong Nai province, also known as Gia Ray Mountain, is a great weekend hike, famous for its stunning temple at the top. The Ta Nang - Phan Dung trail stretches across Lam Dong, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan provinces, offering a 55km trek through rolling hills, dense forests and vast grasslands. Ma Pi Leng Pass in Ha Giang province, at around 1,500 metres, is part of Ha Giang's famous Golden Road, also known as the Ha Giang Loop, famous for its dramatic cliffs and deep valleys. Ta Xua in Son La province, at 2,865 metres, has a “dinosaur spine” ridge, a narrow and rugged path that rises above the sea of clouds. Ba Vi Mountain in Hanoi, part of Ba Vi National Park, is a great destination for novice hikers with its dense forests, diverse flora and fauna and ancient temples.
