Achievements of Energy
Vietnam's energy infrastructure has undergone significant transformations driven by rapid economic growth, industrialization, and urbanization.
The expansion of power generation capacity includes major hydropower projects like the Hoa Binh and Son La plants, with capacities of over 1,900 MW and 2,400 MW, respectively. Thermal power plants such as Mong Duong and Vung Ang have also been commissioned to meet rising electricity demand. In renewable energy, Vietnam has emerged as a leader in Southeast Asia, with the 420 MW Dau Tieng Solar Power Complex and offshore wind farms like Bac Lieu showcasing the country's commitment to sustainable energy. The national grid has achieved near-universal electrification, with over 99% of households connected, facilitated by projects like the North-South 500 kV transmission line. Smart grid technologies have been integrated to improve reliability and efficiency. Distributed energy resources, including rooftop solar panels, have been widely adopted, supported by favorable policies and feed-in tariffs. Investment and policy reforms have attracted significant foreign direct investment, and initiatives like the Power Development Plan (PDP) outline comprehensive strategies for power generation and infrastructure development. Environmental initiatives focus on transitioning to cleaner energy sources and improving energy efficiency across sectors.
These achievements underscore Vietnam's commitment to enhancing energy security, diversifying energy sources, and promoting sustainable development .
