Your hotel registers your temporary residence with the local police as required by the Law on Residence, and overstaying your visa carries escalating fines.

How to stay legal
- 1Leave your real passport in the hotel safe and carry a photo or copy day-to-day.
- 2Buy your e-visa only at evisa.gov.vn and save the PDF approval.
- 3Check your exact visa expiry date and plan to leave before it.
- 4If you change accommodation (e.g. a homestay), confirm they've registered you.
- 5If you must extend, start the process well before your visa expires.
If you break this rule
- Overstay fines accrue per day and are collected at the airport before you can leave.
- A long overstay can mean a temporary entry ban on future trips.
- Not being registered or carrying no ID can trigger a fine on the spot.
