Artificial Lakes
Se San Hydroelectric Reservoir, Gia Lai, Vietnam not only provides water to irrigate thousands of hectares of rubber, coffee, and loquat trees, but also provides a rich source of aquatic products for people living in the border areas on both sides of the river. Since the construction of the hydroelectric power plant and the lake, the villagers have been no longer poor and have been living a healthy life. Now, many people, especially young people who like to go to the water to catch fish, have gradually stopped going to the forest to cut down trees and destroy forests. Indeed, the Po Co River and the Se San Hydroelectric Reservoir have given our people a more prosperous life.
The system of ecological islands connected one after another on the Se San hydroelectric reservoir (Ia Grai district, Gia Lai province, Vietnam) has created a majestic and charming river and mountain space that fascinates travelers from afar.
About 70 km west of Pleiku city, the Se San hydroelectric reservoir area in Ia O commune, Ia Grai district has many hills and mountains winding around the large lake, creating a masterpiece of "natural wonder". On the vast hydroelectric reservoir area, the high mountains have now become ecological oases standing out amidst the clear, emerald green water.
The scene of local people setting up many large, colorful nets to dry on the lake surface, waiting for nightfall to release them into the water to catch anchovies, catfish, catfish, carp, etc. creates a beautiful ink painting for Se San Hydroelectric Lake.
In order to maximize the potential of Se San 4 hydroelectric lake, Gia Lai is currently focusing resources and inviting investors to awaken the potential of this land into an impressive tourist destination. The peaceful scenery, charming mountains and rivers, along with the rustic beauty of the villages and the indigenous culture of the local residents living around the lake create a "great melody" with a unique mark that attracts tourists.
The reservoir of Se San 4 hydropower plant has a capacity of over 893,000m2. The hydropower dam is 10m wide, the length of the dam at the top is 850m. Se San 4 hydropower plant is a hydropower project built on the Se San River, in the land of Mo Rai commune, Sa Thay district, Kon Tum and Ia O commune, Ia Grai district, Gia Lai. This river is a major tributary of the Mekong River, originating from the top of Ngoc Linh mountain in the North of Kon Tum province, flowing in the Northeast - Southwest direction. This is the last project downstream of the Se San River system and is also the project with the second largest capacity after Ia Ly hydropower plant. Se San 4 Hydropower Plant has promoted its multi-purpose advantages: electricity production, water supply for production, daily life, flood prevention in the rainy season... besides, it also takes advantage of its geographical location to develop tourism, create livelihoods for people, contributing to the economic development of Kon Tum and Gia Lai provinces.
Promoting the advantages of the water surface of the hydroelectric reservoir, Mr. Ly Nhan Phu - Director of Nhan Phu Tourism Cooperative (Ia O commune, Ia Grai district) has invested in a number of homestays and floating restaurants on the poetic and airy Se San River for tourists to experience and explore the majestic river and mountain space here. In addition, Nhan Phu Tourism Cooperative also invests in developing the following types: Agriculture with clean vegetables, tubers and fruits; Preserving the cultural heritage of gongs, indigenous culture of the Jrai people in the border commune... to serve the people and tourists. In the coming time, the Cooperative plans to open tours to explore the ecological floating islands on the Se San hydroelectric reservoir, Teambuilding tours to experience with local people, check-in at border markers, visit the Se San 4A hydroelectric plant...
After experiencing the services at Se San Islands Tourist Area (belonging to Nhan Phu Tourist Cooperative), visitors can also take a canoe to admire the pristine natural space of the lake, paddle Sup on the Se San River or join the locals in casting nets, fishing... and enjoy the typical dishes here such as: Catfish cooked with sour bamboo shoots, Se San River anchovy salad, striped melon fish, rice field loach... accompanied by local specialty wild vegetables.
